    Second box looks like yew. Love the 3rd hand you have to hold the wrench! Efficiency is intelligent laziness! Does that make us intelligent or lazy? Maybe!!!! I like to do all my finish cuts with NRSs/negative rake scrapers. Some times, 400 grit roughs them up rather than smooth them out.

    Your background music is distracting , think about editing with a voice over natation describig tools and procedure being demonstrated , or invest in an ear microphone or throat mic . Look at purchasing som sanding disks with the edges that are designed to fold over the edge of sanding disk without puckering . The push back of the cover of your second box is caused by the trapped air compressing and expanding when you release pressure on cover . A very invative method to save the first box and cover the tear out through the side . The hollowing tool is a brilliant piece of kit . I might have to make the curved tip

      My videos are for entertainment purposes and are not instructional. If you watch the video carefully you can see what I am doing rather than me telling you and you can use these techniques at your own risk . Personally I find instructional videos with narration totally boring but each to his own I suppose. I did know what was causing the lid pushing off and this was all part of the entertainment of the video that you obviously don't appreciate. Not sure why you are telling me what sandpaper to buy but other than that, thanks for your inspirational comment. Maybe you will let me know when you make a video.

    Nice boxes. The self opening lid was likely caused by the lid being airtight and the box being warm from sanding. Once the air was trapped the heat made it expand and push the lid off.

    I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

  • @AdamCourtneyPhoto
    @AdamCourtneyPhoto Год назад

    I liked the video and its definitely a good example but habving been turning wood for a year or so, i pretty much understand how to turn the shapes. The big challenges for lidded boxes seems ti be all the little details you skipped mentioning. For example, what are you doing to hold the base of the box while you finish the bottom? Looks like paper towel over something? The clamp marks always seem to show up. Thanks

    • @PeterWoodbineWoodturning
      @PeterWoodbineWoodturning Год назад

      The method of holding boxes is generally either by gripping a tenon, expanding into a recess, or by using a jam chuck. When finishing the base it was held on a jam chuck which was slightly too loose and was therefore made tighter by using a paper towel. If you watch my other lidded box video, it shows me forming jam chucks a couple of times. Thanks for the comment.

    If you drill at the corners of the rectangular hole on clear panel before cutting it out, the panel is less likely to crack (but you will have rounded corners). The corner concentrates all the bending stresses into a point. You can even stop fatigue cracks in materials like aluminium or cast iron by drilling a hole at the end of the crack. I think in that application they are called stopholes. Nice build! I really need to make one for myself.

      Sorry its been a while but it took some time to find my notes on this project. I'm not too sure how much help this will be as even I can't decipher some of these rough notes. Corner posts are 60mm * 60mm. Top and shelves are generally from 19mm finished boards. Perimeter of top is 60 *30. Top front rail is 50 * 30 and bottom rail is 30 * 60 in opposite orientation across the corner post. Other rails and stiles will need to be generally from 19 or 30mm stock to suit your overall finished size of unit and separating panels. Hope this helps.

    Peter, your video perfectly compliments David book and has been VERY helpful in my attempt at this box. The box I must say is a bit of a challange and measureing to a half millimeter a must. Just had to redo my templates since they were off just a tad. Having some of the same issues you did and the one where you mentioned you needed to go in deeper on the inside of the lid with the gooves. The thickness of the lid is about 4 mm. Could you tell me in your corrected lid how deep you actually went. Going in 2 mm from each side is not a lot of wiggle room. Was thinking maybe 2.5 - 3 mm on the underside, but was not sure and that's why I ask. Thanks

    • @PeterWoodbineWoodturning
      @PeterWoodbineWoodturning Год назад

      While its all a bit difficult to measure now, I think my lid is about 4.5mm thick and the underside grooves 2.5mm. I would say the underside definitely needs to be deeper than the top. Thanks for your interest and your comment. Glad the video helped. Always good to hear.
